Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now won the prestigious trophy on 14 different times.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the showdown featuring the French league champions and the French Cup holders after the French winger found the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side fired two times late to seize a surprise lead. First, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial leveler in the dying seconds to force the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving crucial kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a 4-1 shootout win.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons.
